Can you believe we bought this on the day it came out and last night I finally set aside the hour to sit down to read it.

Good news: One more book to take off the 'must read' pile.

Bad news: Now I want to re-read Deathly Hallows but somehow doubt I can do that in under an hour. Also, nothing more in the Harry Potter universe to read. For now?

I heard on the radio that since Halloween was on a Friday this year it was going to be a much bigger 'adult' holiday which I suppose is bad for kids. Which got me thinking, if kids don't trick or treat as much any more, do they even still have Trick-or-Treating for UNICEF? In short, yes!

Amazon History

There was a mention of "what was the first thing you ordered from the internet" and while I can't recall exactly what I did order first (and if I still have it), I was able to dig this up my Amazon history:

This Bugs me

My letter to the CEO of Home Depot:

I agree with PETA and am calling on you (and the The Home Depot) to immediately end the sale of ladybugs and praying mantises at your stores and furthermore, adopt a policy prohibiting the future sale of any live animals.

Animals, even ones as small as ladybugs and praying mantises, aren't merchandise.

Vuitton bullies artist

Read this on the web...  had to pass it along:

...designer Nadia Plesner is getting sued by Louis Vuitton for showing the likeness of a Vuitton bag in a campaign to encourage divestment from Darfur. [...] "As an artist yourself, we hope that you recognize the need to respect other artists' rights and Louis Vuitton's Intellectual Property rights," the attorney wrote. Plesner, probably aware that artist's like Murakami have the right to appropriate and satirize the work of others, lawyered up and refused. Now, according to TechDirt, Vuitton is "demanding $7,500 for each day she keeps selling the product, $7,500 for each day she displays its original cease-and-desist letter and (my favorite) $7,500 for each day she mentions the name 'Louis Vuitton' on her website."

Said the artist, "Since doing nothing but wearing designerbags and small ugly dogs appearantly is enough to get you on a magasine cover, maybe it is worth a try for people who actually deserves and needs attention."

Too Hot

Finally getting around to finalizing some of the sketches from my old notebook. Not sure when this was done but I am guessing it most have been a hot day.

Just in time for this week-end, however!

Doesn't Feel Like Spring

Calendar says spring but today sure doesn't feel like it. I am not looking forward to standing outside for the commute home, however, the remaining Easter cookies await, so there's one reason to go home (early).

Time to brew a cup of Peet's coffee and make a serious dent in these.

Continuing our look back at 80s music with Excel

...this time looking at 'Miles Away' finds us pitting Erasure's Wild! album against The Plimsouls' Everywhere at Once (or, probably more commonly, the Valley Girl Soundtrack.)

I would have thought there were more songs that used the phrase 'miles away,' but a quick web-search came up dry.
